How do you get Bacterial Vaginosis?
When healthy, the environment and bacteria inside the vagina are in balance. Naturally occurring ‘good’ bacteria, or lactobacilli, are dominant and the vaginal environment is slightly acidic (pH<4.5), thanks to lactic acid produced by the bacteria. However, in BV, the balance is altered and the good bacteria in the vagina are reduced in number, vaginal pH becomes raised, and the ‘bad’ BV-causing bacteria come to dominate.
The bad, BV-causing bacteria are able to grow by attaching to the vaginal lining and forming a ‘biofilm’ that helps sustain them and protect them as they grow and reproduce.

BV impact on Quality of life
Most women report that BV has a moderate-to-severe impact on their self-esteem and personal life. The most distressing symptom is the malodour, followed by abnormal discharge. This leaves women feeling
self-conscious, falsely unhygienic and very concerned about their personal image.
Women as well often feel confused and frustrated when experiencing recurrent BV infections.

Method of administration
- Remove the cap from the tube and puncture the metal seal.
- Remove the applicator and screw the end of it onto the tube.
- Slowly squeeze the tube to fill the applicator; the plunger will move as the applicator fills and will stop moving when the applicator contains the correct amount of gel.
- The applicator is inserted in the same way you would use a tampon applicator, so you may sit or stand depending on how you feel most comfortable and gently insert the applicator as far as comfortably possible into the vagina. Holding the applicator in place, slowly push the plunger until it stops, dispersing the gel into the vagina.
- The reusable applicator must be washed following each use. To wash, pull the plunger out to remove it from the barrel and wash both the barrel and plunger with mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and leave it to air dry.
- To reassemble, push the plunger back into the non-threaded barrel end.
